A Ghanaian born genius, Professor El Anatsui lived most of his adult life in Nigeria while lecturing at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. An internationally recognized sculptor, installation artist and intellectual, El has become a creative giant in the global landscape.

His notable sculptures are often done on assembled flat wooden panels. The surface of the panels are creatively designed by a combination of techniques such as engraving, burning, scratching, chiselling and even painting. He often incorporates traditional motifs such as his Ghanaian hometown adinkra patterns and the Uli of Igbo origin that was celebrated by the Nsukka school of art.

Born in 1944, El Anatsui has done several massive installation commissions in many global cities using unconventional materials such as bottle caps, old doors & windows, milk tins, cassava graters, old mortars and leaves.
