Gani Odutokun graduated with first class honours in painting and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1975 and 1979 respectively.
He lectured drawing, painting and design at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria from 1976 to 1995. Gani experimented with different media and executed several significant commissions in painting, mosaic and sculptures. Some of these commissions include the mosaic work at the Nigeria Aviation School in Zaria, the bronze relief sculpture at the Hilton Abuja Transcorp Hotel, the architectural design of the Oando petrol station opposite the Ahmadu Bello University main entrance and several of such across the country. Tragically, he died in a motor accident in 1995 while returning to Zaria from Lagos where he had attended an exhibition (outcome of a sculpture workshop), a collaboration of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and the Goethe Institut.
